FAQs
Below are answers to some of the most commonly asked questions we get. If your question is not answered, don’t hesitate to get in touch with us and we’ll do our best to help you out.
Why should I hire Peninsula Window Cleaning?
I am a licensed and insured professional window cleaner. With more than 8 years in the window cleaning industry, I have the tools, experience and knowledge to get your windows gleaming. You can keep your feet safely on the ground and leave the heights to me.
Why do I need my windows cleaned?
Cleaning will remove the dirt, bird stuffs and other debris off the glass before the sun has a chance to bake it into the glass and turn it into hard water stains. It also lets in more light and leaves you with a much clearer view of our beautiful Alaskan landscape.
How often should I have my windows cleaned?
There are lots of different ways to answer this question, but I recommend twice per year at least on the outsides, and once per year on the insides (unless you burn wood in your fireplace, then I recommend cleaning inside twice per year also).
How do you do estimates?
We come to your house, walk around the outside and count up the panes, then contact you with the quote. If everything is agreeable, we will talk with you about a date and time that is mutually beneficial.
How long will it take to clean my windows?
That depends on many factors, such as how many windows you have, how dirty they are, shrubs or rosebushes under windows, trees in front of second story windows, whether there you want both insides and outsides cleaned or solely the outsides, etc. With that being said, I have found that it takes 2-5 hours to clean the windows in most houses.
How much will it cost to have my window cleaning done?
That depends on a variety of factors such as how many panes you have, potential obstructions to ladders and/or personnel, how many stories tall your house is, whether or not ladder work is required inside of your house, how large your panes are, etc.
What can I do to prepare/help?
There isn’t much in the way of assisting with the window cleaning itself, but the biggest help is to clear your window sills of personal items, and also anything that you have suction cupped to the window pane. This helps me finish up with your house and leave you with beautiful windows in the shortest amount of time possible.
Will you need access to water?
No, I bring all of our own supplies.
What chemicals are in your window washing solution?
I use a simple tried and true mixture of Dawn dish soap and purified water. If you’d prefer a more natural soap, I can accommodate with a product that is plant based.
Why are there spots/fog/discoloration on some panes?
- Fog – This is an indicator that the seal on the edge of your glass has failed. This seal keep argon gas between the panes, which acts as a temperature barrier not allowing as much cold in or warmth out. Fog is caused by water vapor being trapped between the panes and fogging during humid or hot days.
- Spots – Spots are an indicator of the water oxidizing the uv coating that is between the panes. This uv coating is made up in part of metal, which oxidizes when in contact with oxygen and water.
- Discoloration – This is caused by the same thing as spots, just on a larger scale. The colors I’ve seen can range from green, purple, pink or yellow, but it’s from the metal in the uv coating being oxidized.
